Vincenzo Legrenzio Ciampi

Vincenzo Legrenzio Cianpi was born in the province of Piacenza in 1719 and studied in Naples, where his first youthful opera was performed. As a harpsichord master, he collaborated with an Italian company, performing in Palermo and later in London. In Paris, in 1752, he was part of E. Bambini’s company, and his Bertoldo, Bertoldino e Cacasenno (1748), or Bertoldo in corte (1753), became one of the greatest successes of the season.

He was the first composer to write a composition inspired by the figure and story of Bertoldo, the protagonist along with his family in the work by Giulio Cesare Croce, a writer born in San Matteo della Decima in the Bolognese region, where the headquarters of the Settima Diminuita association is located.
Upon his return to Venice in 1756, he became the maestro di cappella at the Ospedale degli Incurabili in 1760. He remained in the city until his death in 1762.
